Happy Ramadaan 2015/1436

The month of Ramadaan is the month in which the Holy Qur’an was revealed.  It is also the month that Allaah (SWT) – God the Almighty – has ordered the Believers to fast, refrain from eating, drinking, sexual relations, during the daylight hours, dawn until dusk.  Normal daily activities do not come to an end.  Alhamdulillaah, Praise be to God Almighty for this great mercy He has given us.

Those who are physically able to fast will do so while enjoying a beautiful fellowship that is experienced the world over.  During one Ramadan, a friend and I observed the stunning sight of a group of men praying together.  She remarked, “In this handful of men, we witness every race of humanity.”  Like many millions I will be able to fast this Ramadaan and I’m so grateful my health is good enough to do so.  Although I did fast last year with my doctor’s permission, it was challenging.

Why do Muslims fast?  We fast because the Believers have been commanded to do so by Allaah, God Almighty.  Having endured a near fatal illness, fasting is a reminder of how grateful one should be for everything.  Living to see another Ramadaan, having good health, and inhabiting a peaceful environment where fasting won’t pose great difficulty are among some of the reason for gratitude.

There are many who did not live to see this Ramadaan, may Allaah, Glorified and Exalted is He, make their grave spacious and imbue it with the sweet scent of musk.  Some are experiencing health issues which prevent them from fasting, may Allaah grant you good health and a positive and joyful outlook.  There are others who live in difficulty beyond their control, may Allaah grant you peace and security.

I would like to take this opportunity and ask all of you to forgive me if I have wronged you in any way in the past year.

May Allaah (SWT) accept your fasting, your, salaah, your prostrations, your reading of the Qur’an.  May your acts of worship be for Allaah (SWT) and Him (SWT) alone.

May Allaah (SWT) accept your imaan, faith, increasing it during this month.  May your taqwaa, reliance upon Allaah, be a fortress for you against your trials.  May He (SWT) forgive our sins.  May Allah (SWT) increase you in patience to endure your trials.  May He (SWT) grant you the wisdom to understand that His Plan is the Master Plan.  May He answer all your du3as, supplications, that are good and right for you.  May we be among those who remember Him (SWT) often.  Ameen.  Ya Rabbul 3aalamin, Lord of all that Exists.

Remember to pray for and help those less fortunate than you.

“…Worship none but Allah.  Treat with kindness your parents and kindred, and orphans and those in need; speak fair to the people; be steadfast in prayer; and practice regular charity…”  Translation of the Holy Qur’an 2:83

Happy and Blessed Ramadaan to You and Yours!
